The Kennedy Homestead

Southeast Ireland | County Wexford

The Kennedy Homestead is a birthplace of Patrick Kennedy, the grandfather of the president of USA, John Fitzgerald Kennedy. Farmstead is located in Dunganstown, 8 km south from New Ross, County Wexford and now is a home of small museum dedicated to Kennedy family. The story starts during Great Famine in 1848, when Patrick Kennedy left Ireland on Dunbrody Famine Ship to look for better life in America. The exhibition shows the path of career and political success both, John F. Kennedy and his father, Joseph Patrick Kennedy. There is also an display dedicated to the official visit of John Fitzgerald Kennedy in Ireland (president Kennedy didn't neglect to visit family homestead in Dunganstown). There are many interesting exhibits originated form Ireland and USA, dating from 19th century to times of the presidency of John F. Kennedy. One part of the exhibition is housed in a modern visitor center, and the other is spread in the original historic homestead buildings.
